Engagement sessions are magical! I LOVE shooting them! There is something so exciting about taking photos of the bride and groom to-be. With the right planning, an engagement session can produce photos that will last a lifetime, and reflect the unique personality of the couple.
So, how do you make the most out of this opportunity?
Splurge on a blowout & makeover- An engagement session is actually the perfect time to pamper yourself a little bit. Maybe you never get your hair or makeup done. Maybe you’re wondering if you should or shouldn’t get your makeup professionally done on your wedding day. An engagement session is the perfect time to spend a little extra money getting yourself made-up! Not only will you look amazing, but more importantly you will FEEL amazing! The confidence you are feeling will show up on the camera, and you will be thankful you splurged. After the engagement session, you and the groom can go out to dinner and make a total date out of it! Trust me, wedding planning is stressful, and a little pampering goes a long way.
Be Yourself- The best engagement sessions are the ones that reflect the personality of the couple. Don’t wear clothes you wouldn’t normally wear. I actually made this mistake in one of the outfits I wore in my own engagement session. I really overthought it! I went to store after store trying to find something stylish and flattering. I bought a flowy, jeweled blouse. But, it really wasn’t my style I never wore that top, again! Take the clothes you wear everyday and go for a slightly more polished look. And, don’t be afraid to act SILLY in front of the camera! If your relationship is silly, be silly! Just be yourself, and at the end of the day, you’ll have better photos!
Relax- A lot of people aren’t used to being in front of the camera. It can be especially tough for grooms. In the days leading up to the engagement session, it may feel silly, but practice posing together in front of a mirror! This can help you feel more confident and comfortable on the day of the engagement session. Your photographer does NOT expect you to know how to pose or what to do! If they are knowledgeable, they will guide you every step of the way! If you do mess up, laugh it off! That’s just another great candid your photographer can capture of the bride and groom laughing away!
HAVE FUN- Obviously! Engagement Sessions should be fun! You are celebrating your love for one another! Keep everything in perspective and never take it too seriously!
Good luck!
