I’m so excited to share this beautiful Churchill Downs winter wedding today! The gold and red were so perfect for the holiday season!
It was such an honor to be a part of Melissa and Lonnie’s wedding day at Churchill Downs. I have to say, Churchill Downs has always been on my bucket list as a photographer and it did not disappoint. Churchill Downs is most famous for hosting the annual derby which draws people from all over the world. It was so fun to explore this venue. Even though I had been a few times before, I never fully comprehended the size. It’s just HUGE and beautiful. I have to say, this would also be a great spot for an engagement session in the Spring!
For their December 7th wedding, the sun shone brightly despite hiding all week. Melissa got ready for the day at their home, surrounded by her bridesmaids and family- where their large Christmas tree and fireplaces made the perfect backdrop for a holiday wedding. When we made it to the venue, Melissa and Lonnie shared an intimate first look in front of the twin spires and exchanged thoughtful gifts for each other.
The ceremony music was provided by bagpipes- the first I have witnessed in my wedding photography career, and I loved it!! After readings from both of the bride and groom’s mothers, the bride and groom were wed by the groom’s brother!
This day was simply full of personal details. The reception was held on Millionaire’s Row and was absolutely beautiful- from the decor to the incredibly sweet poem Melissa’s dad wrote especially for her.
Dr. and Mrs. Douglas, thank you so much for having me on your wedding day! I wish you many years of happiness!!
